Dynamics and Rural Planning (DYNTAR)
Objectives
DYNTAR
aims at training new scientists and administrators from different domains in
issues related to spatial planning, organization and development in rural and
peri-urban areas. Decision makers and local authority teams should have a
profound knowledge of the new forms of local government which are developed in
rural areas together with the decentralization and regionalization procedures.
In order for those agents to take charge of the new responsibilities - purviews
in the domain of area management, they need administrative staff, consultants,
inspirers, and researchers trained in interdisciplinary methodologies of spatial
analysis, so as to be able to take into consideration the aspects that will
allow them their passing from support to negotiation.
The main objective of this Master program is to enable students fully
understand, analyse and produce spatial representations as well as cooperate
with the local agents, so as to contribute to the convergence of points of view,
preconditions for the negotiation and the decision making.
Thus, theory and practice in DYNTAR are based on an interdisciplinary approach,
imposed by both the above mentioned reasons and the fact that scientific fields
and technologies involved complement each other. Special emphasis is given to
the understanding and use of advanced spatial representation technologies as an
essential tool for spatial planning and development in the exploitation of
special resources of a territory.
Application Prerequisites
In order to apply you must be a graduate of a higher education department
related to the broader objective of Regional Planning, City Planning and
Development or have a score of 240 ECTS. Applicants are admitted on the basis of
their under-graduate grades, professional competence, scientific research and
recommendation letters. Provided that the teaching language is French, a good
knowledge of it is indispensable. Upon registration in the University of
Thessaly, the candidate, on the basis of the bilateral agreement, acquires the
student status in both Institutions.
Study Program Syllabus
The study program extends over two academic semesters and is organized on five
modules:

Environment and Spatial Development
In parallel, during the semesters, students are assigned to work out a joint
Collective Project - Case Study, aiming at acquiring interdisciplinary training
and experience. This Project, which is of special significance, integrates
students from different specialities in a work group that faces a true
developmental problem of an area through: exploiting new technologies, work
meetings with the local authorities, field research, interviews, etc., under the
supervision of the program's academic staff and professionals with relevant
expertise in the problem area.
At the end of the second semester, it is obligatory that students have a
three-month practice followed by the development, writing up and presentation of
a dissertation. Practice can, in cooperation with the Laboratory of Rural Areas
(University of Thessaly), take place in organizations and agencies of the local
authorities (Municipalities, Developmental Corporations, etc.), in public
agencies, private companies, etc, (in Greece and abroad).
Accredited Degrees
The degree awarded is a specialisation Master in Planning, City Planning and
Regional Development, with specialization in Spatial Dynamics and Rural
Planning. The degree, written in both the French and Greek language, is jointly
awarded by both cooperating Institutions, the names of which appear on the
degree certificate.
Places
The number of places for the DYNAR program is 15 maximum for each academic year.
Fees - Student Care
There are no fees. The possibility of funding accommodation and board is
examined individually.
